Having worked with Pete Allan of PMA Property Maintenance for many years, we were pleased when he approached us with a project to build two new homes, one being for himself and the other for a good friend with whom he was collaborating.

We were also delighted to see that this project was featured on the front cover of the latest SWS brochure, featuring the triple roller doors we installed at the property in Over Wallop, Hampshire.

Brief

The houses were to be built in a rural village setting of the Over Wallops.  Both homes would share a vertical timber-clad design, but they would each select products and tweak design layouts to best suit their lifestyles, with the garages being an example of this.

The design of the garage doors needed to be something simple, neither overly modern nor traditional. Black had already been specified for all of the doors and windows around the home, including the garage doors. It was decided that black would sit very well against the natural cladding of the building, not only when the timber was vibrant and newly installed, but also as the cladding weathers to shades of grey.

Solution

Having installed Sectional garage doors on previous projects for Pete, including two large double Hormann sectional garage doors on his last home, Pete was well aware of the substantial security and insulation benefits of the 42mm thick insulated sectional door design. The sectional garage door, therefore, made perfect sense for this project because the garage was attached and integral to the main house. The S-Ribbed design gave the appearance of 16 horizontal panels and the Woodgrain embossed surface felt more suited against the grain patterns of the surrounding timber cladding.

The garages for the other client were designed completely detached from the main house and therefore there was little need for insulation. As with any building project, cost also plays a part in the decisions and with this one requiring 6x garage doors, the SWS Seceuroglide roller garage doors satisfied the budget while still delivering a secure and low maintenance garage door solution.

While the 18mm of insulated core of the roller garage door is unable to compete with the thermal efficiency of the 42mm sectional garage door, this core helps provide strength and security which combined with the roller doors ability to close vertically in runners with seals, ensures a reasonable level of protection against both weather and unwanted intruders.

Automatic Garage Door Openers

Both clients opted for the doors to be fully automated via remote handsets. For the Hormann Sectional, the obvious choice was to pair it with the Hormann Supramatic E operator, which combined certifies the door installation as Secured By Design. The SWS Seceuroglide roller doors have integral tubular motors and wall-mounted control system complete with a pressure-sensitive rubber edge to ensure safety. The systems include 2x remote handsets per system with each remote being able to operate up to 4x separate garage doors independently, plus wall-mounted controls for ease of activation from inside the garage.

Like the Hormann Sectional, the SWS Seceuroglide also meets the police approved Secured By Design standards. SWS are that confident in the quality of their products, that they provide a 7-year guarantee of the complete door and automation.
