On this occasion, we advised the client to opt for premium garage doors to ensure that they would be completely satisfied with the result. The property in Hamble, located just outside Southampton was pretty impressive and it was an exciting project to be involved with and allowed us to use some of the best products on the market.
Brief
The initial brief from the contractor was for several basic GRP up and over garage doors for a new extensive garage/workshop project, but after arriving on site for the initial survey, it quickly became apparent that the GRP doors proposed would not come close to meeting the high-end spec of the garage and expectations of the client. Internally, the garage had a polished tile floor throughout with underfloor heating, a bespoke automated lighting system, TVs including a large screen projector, and even a bespoke in-floor turntable to display vehicles of choice.
We put on our thinking hats and came up with a bespoke garage door system that would be high spec in every way. Secure, insulated, resistant to weather ingress and using a completely trackless mechanism, our design ensured that the door opening system would not intrude into the impeccably finished garage. Despite the modern internal finish, externally the doors needed to have a discrete design and a finish that would subtly blend in with the traditional buildings on the estate.
With the opening already formed for the garage doors, we also had to find a system that would work with the dimensions without compromise.
Solution
With our many year's experience in the industry, we knew immediately there was one garage door system that would meet every requirement, the beautifully crafted Secur range of doors from the Italian company Silvelox.
At 80mm thick and constructed using high quality engineered veneered timber we are able to obtain the subtle traditional look while proving an extremely insulated and secure garage door. The garage door opening mechanism is unique in that it uses a simple but very effective counterweight and motor system that is integral to the frame of the door and this negated any tracking or motors having to be permanently suspended in the garage.
Once we were confident, we had exhausted all options and that the Silvelox system would work within the existing openings, we arranged a meeting with the very private client to put forward the option.
As you can see, the final result was outstanding. Working with quality materials ensures a better finish, and we were delighted to complete the job to such a high specification.
Feedback
It is never easy to approach a client and raise concerns over the spec being suggested by others, but having previously carried out a 3 door installation for this client we knew immediately it would have been a mistake to pursue the basic GRP doors originally proposed. We knew that the client would have been hugely disappointed should we have done so. Once we were able to meet to explain and justify the benefits and cost uplift for the Silvelox doors the client was pleased we did, and even more so once the doors were installed.
This is a truly incredible garage project and we are proud to have been selected.
