UK First 10 Meter Double Side Sliding Silvelox Door
The Brief
The client was fully renovating this property which included the construction of two very large detached new garages, both of which would be finished internally to a high spec. One garage was to be a triple bay garage requiring 3 individual garage doors. The other was to be a quadruple bay garage, except this was to be created as one single large opening at a massive 10 meters wide!
The property was located within a rural setting surrounded by trees, and the main house was fitted with hardwood timber doors and windows so the client was looking for garages doors that would complement.
Having contacted a few garage door companies and been told that they were unable to offer a door solution suitable for a 10m opening, the client feared having to compromise and divide the 10m opening and create two 5m apertures. Having had the garage specially designed and passed planning to set within the hillside with special steel beam construction they were desperate to avoid this.
The Solution
This project involved a lot of head scratching, but we quickly concluded the 10m wide garage opening would need to be two doors but to mitigate the need for a central divide we would use two side sliding doors that came together in the middle - which also happened to work well with limited head room within the garage. The immediate thought was for a Hörmann HST side sliding garage door, but only available in metal and unable to achieve the same design on the triple bays garage this was ruled out. We turned to Silvelox with their beautiful, handcrafted timber range of doors and everyone was pleased when we found the solution. We would use 3 x Silvelox Secure Up & Over insulated garage doors for the triple bay garage and then the Silvelox SEIP double side sliding garage door for this large garage 10m opening. It was just as well we enjoy a challenge because not only would this be our first double side sliding door from Silvelox, but the first of its kind in the UK! That’s said with previous experience of craftsmanship from the Italians we were confident this was going to be something special.
The client was very impressed with the finished result, exceeding expectations. All doors matched in a bespoke vertical groove design that alternated in width and having sent samples to factory in Italy the garage door stain colour perfectly matched the stained timber windows of the house. The Silvelox doors also provided a high level of security and insulation which the client appreciated.
