Brief
We were introduced to the project when Mr and Mrs Robinson visited the showroom to view the garage door options available for a new garage soon to be built. The garage design was to have a wide feature brick arch opening that was going to require an extra-large garage door at 5000mm wide X 2750mm high. The arch detail limited the type of garage door available, especially with a fixed panel infilling the arch not an option, and the need for a door that could open to obtain full maximum clear drive through height.
For convenience and ease Mr and Mrs Robinson wanted an automated electric garage door, which we would always recommend for a door of such size and weight.
Solution
The HST side sliding garage door from Hormann was the ideal solution and one that Mr and Mrs Robinson both agreed upon. The simple vertical linear panel sections finished in a dark green complemented the property and blended with the surrounding grounds in which the garage is situated. The 42mm double steel skin insulated panel is the same Hormann uses for the sectional garage door which has long proven to be strong, reliable, and low maintenance. The panels are interlocking with built in anti-finger pinch ensuring complete safety and compliance, especially when combined with Hormann’s Supramatic operator. Another benefit of the side sliding door is the remote-control handset can be configured so one button can be set to partially open the door a little for pedestrian access, and another button to open fully for vehicle access.
The HST door system requires some specific and accurate design planning, and it was a pleasure to work with the contracted building company Sherwood Estates who were very professional and accommodating. Restrictions regarding drilling into the back of the bespoke arched steel lintel supporting the brickwork, and high-density concrete blocks being required at a specific height of the internal wall was necessary to ensure secure fixing of the tracks that takes the weight of the sliding garage door. Yet another project where a little pre-planning by the customer and between trades resulted in the best possible fit and finish.
